“La mia vita a Roma è stata ovviamente molto bella. Lì abitavo a dieci minuti dal mare e potevo andare in barca quando avevo il giorno libero. Il tempo non è come lì, ma la città di Lipsia è molto bella. Mia madre ha già arredato completamente il mio appartamento. Nel mio tempo libero ora posso guardare i film e giocare alla PlayStation. Sono uno a cui piace rilassarsi, non devo necessariamente fare qualcosa ogni giorno. Con questa quarantena non posso fare altro che concentrarmi sul calcio… e sognare i gol. Nel mio primo anno a Roma mi sono dovuto adattare, ma sentivo che il meglio sarebbe arrivato la seconda stagione. Che nonostante gli infortuni è andata nella giusta direzione. Ho segnato 7 gol, di cui due prima della quarantena. Dopo lo stop ho giocato meno e sono rimasto deluso. “Non andrà così per tutta la stagione”, ho pensato. A fine anno avevo alcuni club interessati tra cui il Lipsia e a loro ho detto subito di sì. Mi sono consultato anche con mio padre e anche a lui è sembrato il passo da fare”.
“Del Lipsia mi ha attratto il modo di giocare. Non importa contro chi scendiamo in campo, contiamo solo sulle nostre qualità. L’abbiamo visto contro Bayern Monaco e Manchester United, per esempio. Giochiamo con la massima pressione e segniamo quasi sempre. Penso che la velocità e lo stile di gioco si adattino molto bene a me. Tatticamente ci è voluto un po’ per abituarsi a Nagelsmann. Ora gioco più vicino alla porta e questo mi piace molto. Abbiamo un gruppo unito, e anche quando sbagliamo ci incoraggiamo. Credo davvero molto questa squadra. Speriamo di arrivare più in alto possibile in Bundesliga e Champions League. Il mio obiettivo sono gli Europei con la nazionale olandese. A Roma e anche qui a Lipsia ho un piccolo studio: a volta mi viene un testo in mente, lo scrivo sul telefono e poi lo canto. Spesso lo riascolto e lo inoltro ai miei amici. Amo tutta la musica, da quella rap alla classica, sono pieno di playlist diverse su Spotify”.
