STORIE GIALLOROSSE… Quando Mazinga giocava nella Roma
Che anni, quegli anni! Fine dei ’70, inizio degli ’80. Il piombo del primo decennio sta lasciando il passo alla rinascita del secondo e la Roma sta diventando forte. Ma forte davvero. Intanto la televisione a tre soli canali trasmette una serie di cartoni animati giapponesi ispirati dai robot spaziali. Goldrake è il più celebre, ma subito dopo c’è Mazinga e le loro sigle, datate 1979 o giù di lì, le cantano tutti gli adolescenti.
Alla Roma, nell’estate dell’80, arriva un roccioso e molto fisico difensore dell’Avellino, Vincenzo Romano. Terzino destro o stopper. Liedholm gli dà la maglia da titolare e lui gioca 22 partite su 30 del campionato del gol annullato a Turone. Virtualmente, dunque, è un campione d’Italia, perché in quel torneo la Roma gioca alla grande e merita il titolo. Ma va come sappiamo e Romano, detto “Mazinga” per quel suo fisico che ricorda proprio il robot dei cartoni animati di cui scrivevamo prima, si deve “accontentare” della Coppa Italia, rivinta per il secondo anno di seguito contro il Torino ai rigori. E lui è titolare in entrambe le finali.
Dopo quel successo lascia la Roma, ma i tifosi di allora non dimenticheranno più il loro “Mazinga” in giallorosso, che nel ruolo sarà sostituito da “Hulk”, al secolo Sebino Nela. Da un eroe dei fumetti all’altro il passo è breve. Che anni, quegli anni!
